This is a drawing from my sketchbook that was inspired by an experience that I had and the abstract feelings coming out of the experience. In this drawing, I wanted to reflect the feeling of being with friends you haven't seen in a long time. I also wanted to express surrealism and a sense of nostalgia in the picture. The person in the middle represents me, and the creatures all around represent the family I am reconnecting with. I also wanted the images to blend and interconnect in different ways. See how I put the fire creature next to the tree in the background. The floating spike fire balls represent a summer time feeling. I also have candles in the background to give off the feeling of summer.
This is a drawing of Saint Anthony of Padua.
This is a drawing I did of David Goggins, the American ultramarathon runner, ultra-distance cyclist, triathlete, Navy Seal, and member of the United States Air Force Tactical Air Control Party. His motto in life is about putting yourself through duress and difficulty in order to grow physically, mentally, and spiritually. I love how driven of a person he is and pushing his mentality to know and exceed his limitations. The drawings of roots, rocks, and soil are symbolic of the toughness of life. The shovel in the middle symbolize the tools that are needed to dig through the pain. I wanted to depict inner conflict and growth which is what David's mission is about.
This a drawing I did for fun. It's of an elderly man sitting on a bench in a forest like area. He is fidgeting with a bump on his head and contemplating his life. There is an axe in a wood stump to signify that he was cutting wood and is taking a break from it. It's a hot day and the forest is thriving.
This is a drawing I did of a Polaroid photo I found on Google of a young adult girl standing in front of a pick-up truck in a neighborhood holding a folder for what seems to be for school. I loved the aura of the photograph so I decided to draw it. It had a nostalgic tone to it that I found memorable and the way she is standing seems to be haunting and romantic in a way.
Mask Piece. Charcoal.
This was a birthday card I made for my dad. The reason I wanted to show this is because of the work I did on the title and my love for text design. My dad loves the wilderness as well so the drawing of field and deer help evoke feelings of nature.
This is a birthday card I made for my dad on his 60th birthday. My dad loves going up to Northern Michigan to spend time with his family in a cabin in the woods. I wanted to commemorate his taste for nature by drawing all us walking outside of a cabin into nature. I took inspiration from old Disney cartoon shorts with drawing style and the font used for "Happy Birthday".
This drawing I did started as an un-finished grid assignment in my art class when I was at Brother Rice High School. I found an image of Central Park in New York during the winter and drew the grid over the image so I could copy the image portion by portion. I then added different type characters. I wanted to blend dream and nightmare together.
This is a drawing of "Harpo" Marx from the famous comedy team The Marx Brothers. I drew it from a photo still of him from his film Go West (1940). This picture of him caught my eye because of the dark comedy around it. Often the Marx Brothers would get away with a lot of gags that wouldn't be considered sensitive to the public's idea of humor. I always enjoyed Harpo when he was on screen in any of the movies.
This is a drawing that is part of a graphic novel story that I have been working on since I was 16 years old. It's a coming of age stream-of-consciousness story that depicts a teenager named James in a surreal setting, and meets a girl that he likes and wants to date, but the inner thoughts that he is thinking come to life around him and attempt to destroy him. I wanted to depict the bitter-sweet, dark, melancholic, and confusing emotions that are in the middle-class adolescent life. I wanted to portray the emotions of heart-break, first-love, romance, anxiety, guilt, envy, loneliness, emptiness, depression, lust, anger, and spirituality. The images I drew are meant to be wild, expressive and impressionistic. The style is kind of similar to Robert Crumb's artwork.
This was a drawing I did as a final assignment for one of my art classes required for my Graphic Design Minor at Michigan State University. It was our final in the class and we were supposed to turn in drawings that were blue prints for an art instillation idea. I had no limits. My idea was to have people walk into this art instillation room and they would see holographic images of people in random places. Theses are people you would see in your everyday life and how you relate to those people.
This is a drawing I completed for a drawing class required for my Graphic Design Minor at Michigan State University. The requirement of the class was to draw a skeleton that was put out by my professor using charcoal.
Freshman year, Graphic Design Minor, Michigan State University. My professor had put out a mannequin for us to draw freehand.
Freshman year, Graphic Design Minor, Michigan State University. I drew this with charcoal. The requirement was to spend an hour drawing something with charcoal so I drew a mask. Meant to evoke feelings of identity, subconscious, anxiety, and muddled mind.
Another drawing of mine fro coming of age graphic novel, portraying a modern high school dance. It's meant to portray the uncontrolled lust that can be present in high school.
This is a drawing I did of late punk rock singer and performer GG Allin. I took it from the album artwork "GG Allin & The Southern Baptists". I also used sources such as photographs of him, and interviews such as on Jerry Springer, and the documentary "HATED: GG Allin and The Murder Junkies". I wanted to convey the absolute chaotic and outrageous performances that he would put on and the wild and mentally unstable spirit that was inside him.
