This is a collection of work I completed for my Color and Design class required for my Graphic Design Minor during my Freshman year at Michigan State University. The assignments involved cutting out black paper and glueing it onto a white background to create and exercise artistic practices such as integration of black and white, depth of field, foreground and background, etc. All the pieces are abstract and can have multiple interpretations.
This was one of the first paper art pieces I had made for my Color and Design class my freshman year as a Studio art student at Michigan State University. I love the old west art and I love the Terrence Malick film Days of Heaven (1978), Buster Keaton and Clyde Bruckman's The General (1926), and Michael Cimino's film Heaven's Gate (1980). I was partly inspired by one shot in Days of Heaven (1978) with the scene of the train crossing the bridge which is a shot I loved. I also put a man on a horse underneath to further evoke a country western setting along with plants that show an untamed landscape where nature is in control. It's a tribute to old country western movies.
